General guide to setting up document types, queues and rules for a new or existing department.

  1. Setup Queues - There must be at least two "Active" queues in the system before being able to setup a document type.  There must be at least one queue with the "Queue Type" of Indexing, prior to being able to setup any document types.
  2. Setup Document Types - A document type must have indexes attached to it, and be active, before being able to use it inside the system.  Index sets can be used to simplify the process of having like indexes across multiple document types.
  3. Setup Queue Rules - Once the document types and queues are setup, queue rules (Queue admin screen) need to be added to on the Indexing queue for every document type at minimum.  The rules on the Indexing queue will tell the system where to route each document type by default once the indexing process is complete.  More advanced rules can be added to that indexing queue for special scenarios based on the index values of each document type passing through indexing.
    1. Queue rules can be added on any queue to tell the system where to route any document type as it passes through that queue.  See the Queue Rules section of this documentation for detailed information on how to use the queue rules.
  4. Test, Test, Test.... Make sure queues, document types, and rules are behaving as expected.  Try and streamline and automate any processes that are manual in nature.
